Speaking of Quacks…

Image  It is without further adieu that I present pseudo-skeptic extraordinaire, David Gorski aka Orac the nipple ripper.

Gorski is known best for his exceptional talent for cherry picking information that conforms to his particularly biased, preexisting set of beliefs.

The particular brand of pseudo-skepticism Gorski and his followers adhere to is one that actually inhibits the progress of scientific research, zealously discouraging any and all from questioning existing science!

Psychiatrist Richard Kluft made this observation about the current trend of pseudo-skepticism:

“.. today genuine skepticism of the benign sort that looks evenly in all directions and encourages the advancement of knowledge seems vanishingly rare. Instead, we find a prevalence of pseudo-skepticism consisting of harsh and invidious skepticism toward one’s opponents’ points of view and observations, and egregious self-congratulatory confirmatory bias toward one’s own stances and findings misrepresented as the earnest and dispassionate pursuit of clinical, scholarly, and scientific truth.”

Well! One needs only to briefly glance at Gorski’s exhaustive number of rants directed toward anyone questioning the sacred practice of vaccination to see the true embodiment of “invidious skepticism toward one’s opponents’ points of view and observations, and egregious self-congratulatory confirmatory bias toward one’s own stances.”

Sadly, his modest number of devotees are equally as obnoxious.
